Do Meter Readers Still Visit?

I haven't had one come round for years, I'm with EDF, are they still meant to visit? It's only just occurred to me and it must be so long ago I saw one, I'm not even sure which year I last saw one, maybe three or four years.
No, I don't have a smart meter, I've managed to avoid those, so far.

It is up to the individual energy company.
All the regulations require is a meter reading every 2 years but nothing is said about who does the reading. So if you submit a reading then the company doesn't have to send a reader around.0 -

Have you been reading your meters ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Yes!:D I should've mentioned. I submit whenever I'm asked, usually every three months, or monthly when I'm on top of it.0

Ofgem used to require meters to be inspected every two years, they repealed that in 2016.

If you're not providing regular meter readings then they're likely to send someone round because otherwise you could run up a huge bill and argue that they haven't done their best to bill you for energy you used more than 12 months ago.0 -
Actually all the regulations require is21B.4 The licensee must take all reasonable steps to obtain a meter reading (including
any meter reading transmitted electronically from a meter to the licensee or
provided by the Customer and accepted by the licensee) for each of its Customers
at least once every year.

EDF are a pretty slack outfit .What is also very rare is to have them do what is known as a "safety check ".They are obliged, by OFGEM to comply with one this every 2 years although the time does keep changing.
EDF are one of the worst IMO in ignoring the rules set by OFGEM.. Safety checks on meters by EDF are super rare..Scottish Power are the same..If I get one to do a week I`m doing well .
British Gas are the only supplier who obey the rules and properly run their business according to OFGEM rules.. the French and the Spanish do it their way and always have done .
I have met many EDF customer s who say they have never had a meter reader turn up in a decade ! and are surprised to suddenly see me knocking on the door.
Its not surprising that the many meter fiddlers in the UK love suppliers like EDF..No snoopy meter readers coming around.. Even when I ve found an EDF customer fiddling EDF did nt do much about it on occasions just ignored it..They do not have much of a Revenue Protection Unit .0
