Flaky skin - any tips

Options
Hi

In the last few months my skin has got horrendous - I have a fairly good diet, not allergic to anything, but recently my face is flaky as a snowy day in Austria

I rub my face or forehead and it falls off - I am sitting at my desk and its like I have torn a piece of bread on my desk and over my clothes. It is disgusting !!!

I am not sure on the cause and DR has not really helped much

Any tips on how to reduce this?

Best to speak to one or two good pharmacists. If it continues for more than three weeks consider seeing another doctor at your practice.

5% urea face cream. I find it really good for dry flaky skin
  • Are you using any new cosmetics, shower gels, shampoo, washing powder etc?
Even if they're things you've used before sometimes they change the ingredients.

Unfortunately you can develop allergies so I wouldn't rule it out.
I would try cutting down products and using stuff for sensitive skin.

It can also help to increase your intake of some fats and oils, olive oil, avocados, olives, nuts that kind of thing. (I forget the proper term, but it can help your skin).

And of course a nice rich moisturiser used regularly.

If it persists or get worse see the dr. I have dry skin and eczema that comes and goes. It's really annoying and all you can do is work through until you find something that works for you. Hemp cream from the body shop turned out to be a magic potion for me.

Have you moved to a new home or workplace recently? Somewhere a bit overheated? It’s often central heating that makes skin conditions worse. Anyway, hope you find one of the suggestions works.

I have a skin condition which causes a lot of flaking. I found the GP prescribed heavy petroleum based cream very unpleasant, not to mention the apparent risk of bursting in to flames!

I use aloe vera gel now, which I buy in 1 kg tubs online. You need to search for pure aloe vera, with no or minimal other ingredients. You can use it all over your body, including on your face.

    Welcome to my world

As a person who has had greasy skin all my life, the dry flakiness is a nightmare

What I do is use a very gentle exfoliater ( there are loads out there, my skin loves Liz Earle)

Then as soon as out of the shower I pat dry my skin and use The Buffet

When that's all soaked in I slather Nivea on and let that dry/soak in whilst I dry my hair

Nivea is something my skin couldn't cope with just five years ago

My skin has changed, esp now Im menopausal, it needs the richness that before just clogged it an made me get spots.

its worth going back to the old basics and then working up from there

I’ve heard about aloe Vera but never used it.

Any links of what you use?

This is what I'm using at the moment - I get it via Amazon though, it's a lot cheaper
