Breakdown cover for a 17year nissan micra

Is it any cheaper to get it individually or as part of the insurance. Looking for no restrictions taking car in europe either with breakdown cover for europe too. Only one company came up via the comparison site but when I did a quick car insurance quote (I need to review all details) it seemed to work out same price unless there r breakdown companies not coveredin these comparison sites? Any tips appreciated! Thank u😊

A 17 year old Micra? Europe? brave!

We took our 5 year old Chevrolet Orlando to France at Christmas and paid the AA £45 for a week's cover.

We just scrapped a 17 year old Micra because of rust. That aside, in the c. 10 years we had it, nothing ever went wrong with it. They are simple, reliable little cars.

You need to check carefully what vehicle age the insurance covers, a lot have a maximum 15 year age restriction on European cover.

My wife has had a 2003 automatic Micra for the last few years, whatever the top spec one was from that year. (SE?) Apart from a faulty knock sensor (which we were convinced was the timing chain stretching but turned out not to be) and some paint flaking at the back it's been no trouble at all.

The air con (I know), the climate control, the rain sensing wipers, all work good as new. It's as reliable as it's fondly remembered stable mate from that era, the Almera. Which is a future sought after classic car or I am very mistaken.

My standard insurance policy covered me on my car when I toured France three years ago, think it was the same age as yours at the time though I did have to notify them of the trip.

For breakdown cover all the stand alone policys I found stopped at 12 or 15 year old cars and would not cover anything older.

At the time ETA were the only insurer I found who covered older cars up to 20 years old; https://www.eta.co.uk/

Covered over 1000 miles all in with no issues, hope your trip goes as well.

I have this with the Co-Operative bank and it's fantastic. The RAC policy is full cover everywhere.
