Misleading MSE eligibility calculator

Options
I was looking for a new balance transfer credit card so consulted the MSE calculator which informed me that I was pre approved 100% certain of getting the Virgin Money card. It also told me that I was 95% sure to be accepted for several other cards. Naturally I applied for the Virgin Money one but have been turned down. Why did the MSE tool lead be to believe that I was sure to be accepted? I am now worried that this will have left marks on my otherwise faultless credit score that will hinder any attempt to apply to another CC provider!

Nothing is guaranteed. I'm pretty sure that the MSE calculator is a guidance tool, not a guarantee of success. Acceptances of applications can depend on a variety of factors. Hopefully someone will be along with better advice, but it's not really fair to blame MSE.

If you were so sure of success, why did you use the eligibility calculator before applying?

The only mark it will leave is a search.

Your faultless credit score remains unseen by lenders and one search would be nothing to worry about on a well managed file.

If I was sure of success I would not have bothered using the eligibility calculator. It was the calculator that informed me that I was 100% sure of being accepted!
