I setup the router as insructed in the router book, but i dont know what to do next.. she has a dlink card in her laptop but it has no activity
  • so your not trying to connect wirelessly on your daughters laptop to the router.so you have connected another ethernet cable to your router from your daughters laptop and tried to connect through that ? I assume you have run the internet wizard through xp ? setting up home network etc,

Sorry i think im confusing you!! I am trying to connect my daughters laptop wirelessly so she can have the laptop in her bedroom, I bought the router as i thought this is what i needed to be able to get her on the internet. I followed instructions to set up the router to my modem all wired up and im able to access the internet but i dont know what to do next!!
regards to making new connections.. do i do it on the laptop or on my desktop?? Hope this makes a bit more sense ;)

This is the Techie board and to get help here, you will need to provide more information. You have mentioned a D-Link router and also a D-Link card in her laptop. What are the model numbers of these? What operating system is on the laptop? If the wireless is enabled on the router, there should be an LED indicating that it is active. If it is not active the laptop will never see it.

You should have an LED labled WLAN which you need to get illuminated. Log into the router and go to the Wireless settings screen and check Enable AP (Access Point) followed by Apply. Page 13 of the User Manual.
