SHARES: Help please. My father recently died. I'm an executor and with his will (at home) was a receipt from his solicitors of share certificates held on his behalf (deposited with them in 1989). They say they do not have these. Would he of needed to sign a receipt if he removed them?. If they don't have them now, how can I check if he still possessed them at time of death?? Don't know where to start, thanks in advance.

As an executor, you write to the Share Registrars with a death certificate, your father's details,eg known addresses and any details you know about the shares, asking that they confirm the holdings and requesting that they confirm any other shareholdings in your father's name they may have

There are standard letter templates on Google and the registrar's website will explain the process

it may be more complicated ...

in some cases, there may have been corporate actions since 1989, which could have left your father owning shares in different companies in place of the original shares. or the company name may just have changed.

you can investigate that by websearching for the company names you have. or post them here, and other people may be able to help.
