Wallpaper problems, who’s at fault?

Just paid a decorator to paper my study 2 days ago with Laura Ashley paper from their recent 40% off sale. Covered in small blotches initially 50% of which have now gone. Many remain, will they fade/dry out or could it be a fault with the way the paper is made or wallpaper paste left on the paper? The marks are pretty obvious as it’s a pale striped paper. Decorator asking for his £ which I’m reluctant to pay til this sorted. Any experienced decorators input valued.

Ask which type of paste was used. The fact 50% have gone indicated a drying out issue.

I had this exact issue with Laura Ashley paper and a decorator. I wanted it redone at his expense, he insisted it was the fault of the paper. The best I managed to obtain was him waiving the bill. I had to strip it and get another fella in to redo it.
By doing it myself since I can tell you that the little bubbles are probably where the paper has been poorly smoothed down during application or where the paste coverage is inadequate.. Most will disappear as it dries, as you have found, but if he did a bad job you will still have some left.
I can also tell you that all 3 fellas who came to quote me for the "reparation" job said LA wallpaper is rubbish. I myself have also found it to tear easily, stretch and be generally poor quality.
Before stripping it off you could try gently dampening down the area where the worst bubbles are with warm water and then gently applying pressure to the bubbles. If you are lucky you may re-moisten the paste enough to flatten it to the wall.I have done this with some success in the past.

Decorator came back (probably as i hadnt paid him !) and after i discovered my broadband had gone down, long story short - most of the smudges disappeared but many remained - he begrudgingly washed the walls down but refused to admit that lifting the socket away from the wall could possibly have caused the damage (discovered by the engineer) that left me broadband-less for 9 days, engineer should have charged £65 which i would have deducted from bill but kindly waived this for me. Will never use this guy again!

A decorator who did some work for me about three years ago advised me not to buy Laura Ashley when I was choosing wallpaper. I didn't ask why as I had already got some other makes of wallpaper samples that I intended to choose from.

I recently had some new roller blinds fitted ordered from a local retailer. They subcontract the fitting. The guy who came out told me in conversation that he had just been elsewhere to fit Laura Ashley blinds and that they were absolutely rubbish. A case where you DON’T get what you pay for.

My blinds are great by the way!

Laura Ashley hanging onto a name they had 30 years ago in order to sell a distinctly average product.

There's a near constant sale, so the real price is the sale price.

    Why keep the brand secret?

Independent retailer in my town. In fact, we have two such shops. One predominantly does made to measure curtains but also does blinds.

I am a big believer in supporting local businesses if at all possible.

LA PAPER Stay away from its not easy to put up always found I had to cross line the walls first but sadly there paper tears very easy and once pasted do you leave it to soak or just put it up one at a time
Was never an easy job working with there paper which isn't cheap at all GOOD LUCK
