Cancel Vehicle Order Form

Hi there,

I signed a vehicle order form couple of days ago with a car dealership in the showroom without paying a deposit.

After going home, I read some bad points about the car online and I now want to cancel the order.

However on google search it says I cant cancel once I signed the vehicle order form, but most of the searches are from people that pay deposit too.

In my case, I have not paid anything yet.

Am I in my rights to cancel?

Thanks.

What does the order form say? Regardless of that if you haven't coughed over any money they will find it hard to get anything out of you.
  • I had always understood that in order for there to be a legally binding contract, there has to be consideration (not necessarily money) and so if you have offered nothing in return, the contract can’t be legally binding.

There is a consideration, that's the price you are due to pay for the car.

OP you need to read the contract to see if there are any cancellation rights for you as there aren't any by default because you didn't pay a deposit.

The simplest solution may be just to carry on with the purchase. What car is it, and what did you read that you hadn't previously known that has caused you to doubt your decision?

There isn't a car made which doesn't have people posting about issues they've had with them. All cars have them and the price of the car isn't a guarantee they won't as many Tesla and Mercedes AMG C Class owners will confirm. You also only hear from those who have problems, not the thousands that don't. For example we have one member on this forum who bleats on incessantly about how bad the Ford Ecoboost engine is and how he has a whopping 300 contributors to his Facebook page. He ignores the fact that Ford have sold millions of cars worldwide with this engine in which millions of people have been using just fine and that the problems were limited to a specific engine code for a specific period of time.

If you chose to not buy a vehicle because there are bad points posted on the internet then you'd be walking everywhere.

That is so true, every car has its problems and someone who will say its a load of rubbish.

Most people are too busy driving theirs as they are fine.

Even the Jag/Peugeot 2.7 and 3.0 diesel engines which have a fairly high failure rate, still don't fail that often compared to the number made and in use.
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

Although I'm well aware that online comments will always make a product look worse since people are more likely to complain than praise a product, I still almost cancelled a car purchase after reading comments on forums. Users were posting about several major known issues that were almost guaranteed to happen on the age of car I'd bought.

I went ahead and bought the car knowing there was that risk and when I sold the car several years later it hadn't suffered any of the major issues that were guaranteed to happen nor any other major issues.
