Van written-off, paid out but insurance didn't change. How come?
Dear Forum members,
I was hoping to get some help with a write-off anomaly.
Basically, a person hit me on my private journey with a business van. The van suffered some damage, insurance company didnt bother to repair and wrote it off to category N. Other insurer paid out the van's valuated price in full as well as for whiplash injury.
I repaired the van myself in a professional way, it has new MOT and DVLA has been notified. I also received a new log book.
My insurance was comprehensive and it still is but here is my question:
1.) after the written-off, the van has basically no value if fire or theft occurs, is that correct? So why my insurance company didn't bother to amend the original policy to third party only. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the insurance company forgot this completely. was this a deliberate action from their side?
2.) I also haven't received any confirmation that my NCB will be not affected due to the other driver being faulty.
3.) Ive done an HPI check on this van and found this: Recorded as stolen on 05/10/2018 & subsequently recovered. Can this be amended as its completely wrong, it was never stolen (i guess it was filed in a wrong way but i dont know if this was DVLA or the insurer)
Please note that this was my very first accident in the UK and im not fully aware about my rights and responsibilities in this case. Im planning to write an email with the above questions to the insurer but wanted to ask it here first if this is a good idea / questions are legit?
Many thanks in advance,
Tom

Damaged repaired cars are usually worth around 2/3-3/4 of a non written off car, suspect vans maybe worth a touch more as tradespeople just want it to work.
You would still get a payout if it was stolen or caught fire, although they would probably want evidence that it was repaired and an indication of it's condition prior to the claim.0 -
Thank you for your answer. The van wasnt actually stolen, someone recorded it wronglyon the same day of the write-off. I really dont understand how could this happen?0
