First Plus PPI claim

Hi All,
This is a strange one !
I took out a joint loan in 2004 with First Plus.

I was told the PPI was compulsory. But it could only cover my life because my husband was self employed. I was told that after 5 years if I had not made a claim I would get back the premiums that had been paid.

In 2008 I had to make a claim because I was ill and my employer stopped paying me. I was advised by first plus not to claim because the following year my 5 years would be up and I would get my premium back. I had no choice, I was not getting any income and the loan still had to be paid, so I claimed. However since taking out the loan the montyly payment had gone up due to interest rate changes, so the monthly amount they paid towards the loan did not cover the actual amount ! I still had to find the difference.

In 2011 we repaid the loan early.

I don't have any paperwork and don't know the account number. Also don't know who to contact as First Plus is no more.

Does anyone think I have any claim for mis-sold ppi or any plevin claim.

Thanks

Doesnt sound like it was missold. However, plevin will almost certainly apply.

Because you claimed on the policy it's going to be harder to complain about it.

But there's nothing stopping you, but rememer than any successful complaint will have the claim amount taken out of it.
If you aren't successful, there's always Plevin, as above.

Mark it PPI complaint though not claim.

If you want to discuss your first plus loan contact Barclays. Go online and do a PPI check with them and the account details etc will come back make sure you do this for yourself and your partner.

I agree with the others on here you are not likely to get anything for miss selling but Plevin is likely to apply.
  • Thanks for the replys guys.
I have contacted Barclays online - they sent back some details of a barclaycard credit card that I had some time ago, and had forgotten about, but no details of the firstplus loan. Any further advice would be appreciated.

  • Thanks to everyone for your advice. Shortly after my last post I got a reply from Barclays saying that they had found the PPI information on the First Plus loan. Even though I had claimed on the policy they did find that the PPI was mis-sold and sent compensation to both me and my husband. The amount of the claim was deducted, but we still received cheques for over £7000. And the bonus was that I got a further cheque for mis-sold PPI for the barclaycard I had forgotten about. This gave me the bug - I have put requests in for any credit card I think I have held in the past, so far I've had a further 2 cheques from 2 more cards I had. Many Thanks Moneysavingexpert - I didn't think I had ever had PPI, only on the First PLus loan, but it is so easy to enquire and claim if you follow the advice on here.
