Loan name change before final settlement

Options
Hi
My wife took out a loan before we got married to help us with the wedding costs. She’s never changed the name on the loan and it’s not showing on her credit file. We’re going to settle the loan early and we’re wondering if it’s worth changing the name to her married name, beforehand to see if it can be reflected on her credit file? She doesn’t have the best credit score and we’re looking to sort a mortgage soon, therefore I’d have thought it might help (hopefully improve) her credit score as she’s made every payment on time since it was taken out 5 years ago.

Thanks

  • Just ensure the the names are associated by the CRAs.

Don't worry about her pretend score. She'll only ever be assessed on her credit history and conduct. If her history is thin, a credit card could help prop it up.
