How much to install central heating 2 bed flat?

I'm looking to purchase an upper ground 1 bed flat in a victorian house conversation. I plan to relocate the kitchen to make a lounge/dinner and convert the kitchen a second bedroom.
There is no central heating so can someone give me an idea of what it would cost to instal a system? (inside M25)
Worcester Greenstar Combi boiler or similar and 6 rads (I would supply the rads)
If I were to run the pipes for the rads myself would this make a significant saving?
There is no gas in the flat, the other flats in the building do have it though. Any ideas on the cost of getting gas installed would be a great help too. Would the source need to come from the road or can it be Tee'd off one of the other supplies?
Thanks in advance.

Installing the rads and pipes to them will save you money yes. If you know what you are doing then taking the pipe work to as close as to where the boiler is going will help.
I wouldn't fit the boiler until I throughly pressure tested the pipework work though and charge you for this. If the pressure test fails you would be back to square 1. Getting the installer to do the whole job would be money well spent as it's on them to get it right.
It isn't difficult for an installer but believe me I have seen some DIY horror stories regarding this.
You need to ask the gas carrier in your area about the cost of getting a supply to your flat. Cost is anyone's guess, they will give you a quote first though so you can decide, best do that before any rads are hung.
They bring it into your flat, or outside it but you then need a gas safe registered engineer to do the pipe work from the meter to the boiler, don't try this yourself.0 -
Probably a couple of thousand to get a gas supply into you flat.
This type of system with 6 rads will probably be £5k
You maybe able to do the pipework yourself. Whether any gas fitter will want to connect to it is another matter.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Read the long lease carefully: you will likely need the written consent of the freeholder for some or all of your plans. They could refuse, or stipulate that certain professionals carry out or check and sign off the works. Similarly check building regulations, especially fire safety.
Other flats in the building having gas central heating is no guarantee that you can do the same.

You will be around £600-1000 to get a gas connection (cheaper than usual since you will probably just connect via a pipe from your neighbours saving lots of hassle - although your neighbours have to agree and give consent. Otherwise it will likely be £1000s just to get the gas connection).
Then between £5000-£6000 for the boiler and central heating installation.
It’s a big investment but worth it as you will likely save on your energy bills, makes your property more appealing to buyers, and most importantly much much more comfortable!0 -
You really can't do anything till you've bought the property as all the installing parties need access just to quote.
The steps are:
1) Contact your local gas distributor - May be Centrica - who will visit the site and give a FREE quote for getting gas to the flat
2) A meter must then be fitted - Easiest route is to ask the present Electricity supplier - This is also FREE but they will be your gas supplier, but you can Switch to a cheaper one after it's all up and running
3) Get at least 3 quotes from local gas safe plumbers for the Boiler and Rad install
Local is important as with the "I know where you live card" you won't need expensive Boiler insurance from the likes of British Gas0
