Hello - I am posting here following recent helpful information on the "Techie" site when my Vokera Boiler had an E82 Error, was on 'full' and heating could not be turned off. (Vokera Central Heating Problem - last post today.)

Now that I know Direct Line would not cover me (my fault as I did not understand the Emergency Homecare Policy I had taken out) I am thinking about a suitable alternative. My present unsuitable policy expires on 01 May 2019. I only need home contents and breakdown/emergency cover as the Factor deals with buildings insurance and it is paid in the quarterly Factoring Bills.

My present Direct Line (unsuitable) policy costs about £12 per month and does not include the essential annual boiler 'service' charge.

Does anyone have British Gas Homecare 'Four' cover, please? If so - can you tell me if it covers 'all' boiler breakdowns without an excess and if (although I think it probably does not) it also covers the cost of a routine annual Boiler Service? At present it seems to cost £20 per month. My Vokera Boiler is about five years old now.

I'll be glad to hear if anyone can comment or if they have experience of this type of breakdown cover, thank you.

Crimson

Yes it's covered with no excess but will rise in price on renewal.

Full boiler cover is not until they have done the initial service to exclude existing faults

  • That is helpful, thank you Browntoa. I have time to think about it but having a boiler service and no excess are good considerations. As you point out, after the first year it will increase in price.

At £20, that will be the price with a £60 excess, a zero excess is usually about £32

It would make quite a difference with a £60 excess or the higher monthly rate of about £32. I'll need to think carefully before signing up to anything this time.

I'm a bit on edge and, after misunderstanding my present Direct Line Emergency Home Care cover policy, I'll need to be more careful this time. My Vokera boiler is nearly five years old and has been out of warranty for some time.

Thank you very much for for replying.

BG have quite a comprehensive cover compared to some, but they charge the price for it too. Watch out because some of the cheaper companies won't cover claims unless it's reported in 24 hours, or will only cover an emergency, so 1 radiator not working wouldn't be covered. BG would cover all of that, it just depends how much you are willing to pay.

I have this cover, signed up few months ago. My boiler is 8 years old, I had it serviced free of charge and it soon started leaking so I had to pay £60 excess fee for getting it fixed. Booking an engineer was very simple. My monthly payment is under £17.

People around me don't seem to be keen on BG but I have been their customer for almost a year and I'm happy.
