PIP and Universal Credit
NewName
Hi, long-time forum member here but new user name as some of this may get a bit personal....
17-y-o son with ASD, ADHD and Anxiety. Was advised to apply for PIP in Oct 2017, then UC in Jan 2018.
PIP has been through to Tribunal (Feb 2019, 16 months!!) and won, with enhanced daily living and mobility, just waiting to see if DWP appeal to Upper Tribunal.
During this, DWP assessed him under UC as Not fit for work or work related activity in Mar/Apr 2018 and he has been paid accordingly to date.
We've found seemingly conflicting reports of whether PIP will affect how much UC he'll get going forward (and possibly backwards?).
Also, the PIP will involve a large back-payment, and found unclear info on disregarding of some of this for a savings limit for UC, and what that savings limit is - we've seen £6k and £16k mentioned, but again it's unclear as to what's what.
Can any benefits experts help with this? TIA.

quick bump
I'm hoping some of the regulars like Alice Holt and poppy could help on this? It'd be much appreciated of possible.. 0 -
Great news on the Tribunal win! The PIP award won't affect the UC claim because there's no disability premiums paid on UC and money received from UC will remain the same.
As for the back dated money then this is disregarded for 1 year for means tested benefits.0 -
Thanks poppy...any idea on the £6k/£16k savings limit? We want to stash what we can for him out of the backdated lump, and he has some capital expenditure requirements (transport and a new pc) - is it a case of he can have between 6 and 16k but over 6k will affect his UC payment, something along those lines?0

The backdate money is completely disregarded for 1 year. After this then £6,000 and over and it affects means tested benefits £1 for every £250 over that amount. £16,000 and over and he won't be entitled to any means tested benefits. Thanks poppy...any idea on the £6k/£16k savings limit?
