Scottish Power
After my energy supplier went bust I was moved to Scottish Power. I hadn't heard from them so eventually managed to get through on the phone. I haven't paid anything since November?December. They said that I should hear in two weeks and also gave me an account number. So far I haven't hear from them. My question is can I change supplier even though I owe them money because their rates are higher then I was paying my previous supplier and if I can how do I go about it?

Well, I can only share with you my experience. My former supplier, Our Power Energy went into administration in January, where Ofgem appointed Utilita energy as Supplier of last resort. Exactly one week after, I applied to switch both gas & electricity over to Scottish Power.
It hasn’t gone entirely smoothy (no surprises there with Scottish Power lol) as the gas has switched but the electricity hasn’t, which has required a re-application from SP to switch electricity and I’m expecting to be completely switched over by 11th March.
Given my experience, I reckon you should be able to apply for a switch right now. Don’t concern yourself with monies owing the administrators of your previous supplier or current supplier as they will catch up with you.
However, in my case I didn’t have a credit balance with Our Power, I was owing them money which meant I haven’t needed to concern myself with recovering my credit balance from the Supplier of Last Resort as per the Ofgem’s procedure.
Oh, I meant to add.. you can use a comparison site to switch (mines was uSwitch) or contact a supplier directly for a better deal.0 -
Thank you I want to leave Scottish Power as their tariffs are too high. Thanks for your advice0

The fixed deal I've got from Scottish Power was only available if you went through a comparison site and not directly from Scottish Power.
I'm just saying because if you see a good deal with Scottish Power on a comparison site you're looking at, it might save you a lot of hassle if you phone SP and ask to be put on that deal... they may say they can't do it but may change their mind when you say you're going to switch... that may well be worth a try.0 -
I probably don't need to say this but during these supplier changes always keep a clear record of meter reads (whether smart meter or not) and dates taken (even dated photos if that's easy.)0

I've taken photos of the meter readings. You can't be too careful.0
