Now we know the real reason for smart meters.

From Feb 28th a supply companies new T&Cs 4.4 state,

Smart meter customers paying by non DD, i.e. by quarterly bill, will now receive monthly bills payable within 14 days.

£€£€£€£€£€£€$$$$$$$$$$$$$£££

Not too distant future bills will be untouched by human hands, being delivered, by Mark 8c drones direct to the customer.

Mark 9a drones, to be introduced next year, will also collect your payment via an extendable grab arm.

Eventually I can see every one having to pay weekly by DD as a condition of the ESCDW truce.

I see no problem there, if you want to pay as you go I see no reason for the company not wanting their money monthly.

Sounds good to me. I'd much rather pay monthly for what I've actually used rather than paying a randomly-generated fixed amount.

Why is this not good news?, we see enough people in huge debt for utility bills after an actual reading after a long time using estimates. Surely if they pay monthly and actually pay for what they use this won't happen anymore.
  • All the user needs to do is read their meter once a month and submit the reads to the supplier and then they would be billed for correct usage.

Out of interest, which supplier is this? Or is it all of them?

  • I found the opposite with BG. I have been on monthly payments for years, paying what I owe after submitting a meter reading each month.

I went to smart meters, and never got a direct debit going out when I expected. Turned out they had switched me to quarterly billing when they install the smart meters. I had to ask to go back to monthly billing.
  • That sounds good, I'd much prefer to pay monthly on the amount of energy I've used.

Also, I'd say it isn't a good idea for energy suppliers to be giving out free credit to their custoemrs at any point because that's bound to make energy more expensive for all of us.
  • I have been doing that on my fixed contracts since Edison made the light bulb, later stolen by Swan, or was it the other way around?

    A long time then.

Be even a shorter time when it's weekly.
  • And the issue is?

Instead of paying every three months, you are now paying monthly.

    Any further scare tactics?
