Economy 7
I’m on economy 7 tariff but only use 15% at night ( fridge ,freezer and washing machine)
I did a comparison with and without the “cheaper “ tariff and found that not having economy 7 was cheaper.
For some reason suppliers charge MORE for day time electricity if you have economy 7.
I contacted green network energy to ask about getting rid of economy 7 ( thinking the meter needed changing)
They said that if I signed up for a non economy 7 tariff , I would simply submit both readings
( night and day ) and they would add them together.
So I’m not sure if other suppliers would do this but if you have economy 7 do meter readings and work out your energy use for both day and night use .
Then do a comparison to check if you’d be cheaper not having Economy 7 at all.
I suspect that unless you use at least 30% + you would be better off without it.

It can vary with the rate but it can be around 25% plus needed at night rate to make it viable. For some reason suppliers charge MORE for day time electricity if you have economy 7.
That is how it is meant to be. If they didn't then every person out there would be on economy 7.I contacted green network energy to ask about getting rid of economy 7 ( thinking the meter needed changing)
You dont get rid of it. You just give both meter readings. Both would be charged at single rate.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The facility to submit both readings as one was brought in by Offgen last September I believe. This can be cheaper depending on The on/ off peak usage ratio..
