  • OMG, I was just reading an old post here where its up to 18 month wait on nhs for wisdom tooth extraction. I cant wait that long. I dont have the money to pay private. I guess if it really is that long a wait I will have to put a bit away each month until I can afford it.

I mean, they have not even decided at the hospital yet when my scan will be, let alone removal

    tell me about it :(

its clearly money motivated as if we could ll afford to go private we wouldnt be in pain right now
I agree with you, everything seem to be money motivated in this life now. money before humans

Basically they are saying your jaw joint and muscles show signs of overuse ie you are grinding or clenching hard.

One of your teeth is slightly loose and the filling might be causing a problem.

Your wisdom tooth is pointing backwards and its roots cross onto the nerve that supplies sensation to your jaw.
My gum at back is swollen up now and the tooth is trying to push thru, its distalled position. impacted. I have read that it can be up to 18 month wait on nhs. OMG, I have not even had the Cone T Scan yet either or been put on any list. I am awaiting the next stage of this.

Christ now I feel bad for !!!!!ing about a week of pain.
Oh and I know how hospitals are immune to giveing a crap about pain management.
I was in hospital 12+ times with unknown abdomenal pain and only once did they leave me with gas while I was waiting. Every other time it was taken off me at the hospital and one nurse even told me to keep quite (I was crying and begging for help from the pain).
I read it can be up to 18 month wait for wisdom tooth removal, god, my other teeth could end up being ruined by then. Criminals have done less time in prison.

I would get in touch with the dental department of your local PCT to check if the bit about the hospital not accepting referrals is true.

I have heard of areas where this is the case, and in my own area, wisdom teeth referrals are 'vetted' throught the exceptional circumstances panel (God knows who they are, but I think they're more management than clinical based!) to see if it will be allowed, or whether it can wait.

It would be unusual to have NO service at all.

Your case sounds to me like one that needs to be done, and so you should be able to get an NHS referral.

If you find that you have been told a pack of porkies, then I would make a complaint, as they'll certainly be doing this to other people as well. You can complain anonnymously.

Once it's done, get yourself fixed up with a dentist you can go and see regularly, so that things like this can be caught early in the future.

Even a private dentist can be reasonably priced providing you go regularly and get things sorted before they become major problems.

Come 2009, funding for NHS dentistry is no longer going to be set aside just for dentistry, and it will have to compete with all the other pressures on the NHS.

If you think accessing the services are bad now, it will be even worse once that happens. There will be an increased pressure on privae places as well, as we still don't have anywhere near enough dentists in this country, even to see half of the population.

Find a good reliable dentist now, and stay on top of your teeth. That will be the cheapest in the long run

    .

    No idea I'm afraid.

Have you tried ringing them up?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Rang Pals today as not heard from hospital and they made me appointment for June to see the main doctor. Pals said I must be a special case as to my situation it may mean me waiting a bit longer then patients with basic wisdoms that are easy to get out as it could be that maybe I need a certain surgeon to do it. Due to my circumstances with the tooth near the nerve etc. When I see the doctor in June I guess he will discuss with me the various options.

When I was walking today out in the rain I felt a bad pain in my tooth, I could not even turn my head to that side and the pain went up to my ear. Its on and off all the time now.

To clarify its in distall position impaction.

I am glad that at least I now have a date as have something to go on rather then before had nothing at all.

I guess until its sorted I will be addicted to pain killers.

I did ring several times as to no one answer phone there, so I had enough and got in touch with PALS about it. I put message up on update of it all.
