NHS, Wisdom tooth extraction, and free treatment - probably one for toothsmith

Basically they are saying your jaw joint and muscles show signs of overuse ie you are grinding or clenching hard.
One of your teeth is slightly loose and the filling might be causing a problem.
Your wisdom tooth is pointing backwards and its roots cross onto the nerve that supplies sensation to your jaw.0 -
Hi guys
Thanks for all your help with dissecting the surgeons language from the hospital letter. I have quite a few words of my own right now for the pain of the wisdom tooth and everyone would understand these meanings but I don't think I can put them down on here.0 -
I've finally been given the blessing by my Dentist to have my 2nd troublesome wisdom tooth out (I've wanted all of them extracted the minute they started coming through - 3 so far - and had to fight for the last removal which was only agreed after a failed 'filling' attempt of the half a tooth that was presant )
anyway, I've been referred to the hospital due to the angle and root length, but I've been in pain all week so far (2nd appointment earlier today I was told about needing referral) and have been nicking my mom's 30mg codiene tablets as nurofen plus and OTT co-codamol weren't touching it. As you can expect I'm eager to have this resolved, so I'm wondering iof anyone has an idea of how long the actual wait times are as my Dentist seemed rather vague but claims it would be a few weeks on NHS (in my experience, this is how long it takes the hospital to get an appointment letter out to you so I cant see treatment being done that soon)
thanks in advance0 -
I know how you feel, its painful isnt it, and when you get messed around you then get angry which I have. Ok this is what I have been told, which is why now I have made a complaint to PALS. My dentist refer me to hospital to have lower wisdom impacted distalled position removed. Meaning under gum at backward angle, I only know as to looking up doctor notes on net.I've finally been given the blessing by my Dentist to have my 2nd troublesome wisdom tooth out (I've wanted all of them extracted the minute they started coming through - 3 so far - and had to fight for the last removal which was only agreed after a failed 'filling' attempt of the half a tooth that was presant )

I was told at hospital you will wait about 3 months. Then when I rang today I was told about 6 months, I am so angry. When I took my form to 22 floor there was no one to give it to. A passing nurse took it, but I really wanted to hand it myself but cant hand it to ghost staff can you.
This is what I have been told, but your case could be different but be prepared that the nhs are very slow and dont seem to give a stuff about how much you are suffering. Sorry for the negative but its a fact. I saw surgeon one and he suggested a few things first to see if it was this or that. When it dont take Einstein to know that its my tooth thats doing it.
Try hot and colds on face. Did it
Take pain killers for a week. Those I had already, they didnt give me nothing.
Try a bite down thing on teeth in case you are grinding your teeth for 2wks. I have this thing now.
Have your back tooth refilled, I refused as my own dentist said there is nothing wrong with it, and I am a nervous patient so why should I go thru all of that for nothing and give me more stress. I would only do if filling was !!!!!!ed. But its not. My dentist then wrote another letter to hospital.
I saw surgeon 2 yesterday, its always a different person and never the one named on your letter. Seeing the name one on letter is like gold dust. You see who ever is available in their team at the time.
I saw Mr new person 2. He gave me the bite thing, I said to him, I want my wisdom out its really hurting, he said I understand how you feel, I said, No, you dont! but he still went on about certain procedures you have to go thru first. He said he would arrange a Cone CT Scan and then for me to see this man doc named on my letter. How long? 2-3 months.
Then the pink letter he completed when I said above was no one on floor to give it to.
Reception said 6 month I think, I tried to ask her further info she didnt have a clue. So I have now emailed PALS as I am angry and feel I am being passed aside. I dont even know when the next appointment will be or nothing.
Believe me, if you cant afford it, go private. if you cant afford it like me, you will have to rely on the NHS and your pain will stay until they get off their !!!!!! and pull their fingers out and help you.
You will find yourself going back and forwards to hospital and having to keep taking time off work as well if you are working for all these appointments. For try this, try that. You can scream at them all you like but they will still do it their way.
Sorry for the negative, but thats the way it is.0 -
Christ now I feel bad for !!!!!ing about a week of pain.
Oh and I know how hospitals are immune to giveing a crap about pain management.
I was in hospital 12+ times with unknown abdomenal pain and only once did they leave me with gas while I was waiting. Every other time it was taken off me at the hospital and one nurse even told me to keep quite (I was crying and begging for help from the pain).0 -

How dare her to tell you to keep quiet. god I feel like swearing. What is it with these hospitals now, hospital or torture chambers. Makes me wonder. you should have made an official complaint, this makes me so mad that the nurse told you to keep quiet when you was in so much pain. I really hope she goes thru what you did.
Well they gave me all this stuff about pain management but no pain killers. I am glad the pain is not constant all the time with me. But when it starts thats it. Actually I have emailed PALS now as I have not been explained to about each procedure and gotten different times from different people there. I am not happy and they will certainly know about it once my complaint goes thru.
The dental part has 2hour lunch. she told me to take the form for follow ups to next floor when she knew they was on lunch. I rang today and the woman had no clue to nothing.
I have had the pain on and off for a year. But I only went to dentist recently when it got worse as I am nervous. I wish I had of had the bleeding thing out years ago now when dentists still did sedations.0 -
seems to me all they care about is the money and dont give a crap about the patients any more. There are still a few good ones out there but from what I have seen they are few and far between. These are people they are dealing with. Not pieces of paper they can chuck to one side when they are finished with it.Ladywriter1968 wrote: »How dare her to tell you to keep quiet. god I feel like swearing. oh I did after the first 6 or 7 times as at that point I'd been kept in twice and for a week the 2nd times which is when I had the worst time ever. My mate had to sneak in her bottles an pills of morphine coe hospital were adamant in just giving me the same co-codamol I was already prescribed. They seemed immune to registering the fact that had the co-codamol worked I wouldnt hav had to call the ambulance each time
hope you get yours sorted soon. But I'm sure you'll agree the NHS suck's beyond life-threatening problems (then they are a blessing but those types of instances are few and far between)0 -

its clearly money motivated as if we could ll afford to go private we wouldnt be in pain right now0 -
