seems that the big 6 are using the PAYG price cap to increase there charges to the max ,

looks like a time to move

previous gas s/c 28.55 unit 3.74
new gas s/c 28.90 unit 4.15

elec previous s/c 30.44 unit 14.91
elec new 31.74 unit 16.58

has anyone got a link to the actual they can charge ?

although I have been happy with them (not needed to contact them) since being moved from the s/charge ebico settup , it looks like quite a few of the smaller companies are now looking cheaper

if I exclude ones that do not give warmer home scheme payments , then bulb seems to come out tops giving a saving of about £114 per year

now I know the smaller companies will all rack there prices up , but will they push them as far as the big 6?

new tarriffs come into effect 1st april

PAYG has been much cheaper for the last year than suppliers standard variable tariffs. The cap obviously cannot stay at the same price for ever.
There was a big upward move in prices starting around last August where prepayment rates remained static..Upwards adjustments are needed and one is due in April
Smart PAYG in time, I hope to see as the cheapest tariffs of all once suppliers have faith in the new smart payg meters . The meters will be reliable and cut out the middle man at the paypoint and the constant expensive upkeep of the card and key meters which belong in the last century.
.They will also cut out the too low/high direct debit problems and suppliers helping themselves on catch ups to customers bank accounts or issuing the £1000 catch up bill.

All the details of the price caps in place are available on the ofgem website. Such as https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/prepayment-meter-price-cap-1-april-2019-30-september-2019

Unfortunately the caps are all given as the annual charge at 0 kWh (ie the standing charge), and the maximum charge for the medium TDCV. This requires some further calculations to compare these caps to p/day and p/kWh quoted in any tariff.
  • ok thanks , just contacted bulb , they say there are no increases in PAYG planned???? and state that no notices have been sent out
    prices quoted are

gas 28.31 sc and 3.62 per unit
elec 30.44 sc ans 13.24 per unit

so gas is 1/2p cheaper per unit and electric would be 3.25 per unit cheaper and 1/2p on sc
  • I've seen Bulb have announced that they won't be increasing their prices as wholesale prices have been falling recently due to the warm winter, this tallies with their latest wholesale update which mentioned they might drop prices if anything.
