HSBC Credit Card Charges

Is it standard practise for a bank to charge for protecting your card from theft these days. I have always been aware of protection of payment charges but I noticed on a hsbc 0% purchase card they are separately charging for theft or misuse of the card. Am I wrong in thinking this used to be part and parcel of the card package before not an optional extra?
I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

Are you talking about HSBC CardGuard ?
If so, that has always been optional.. and is a 3rd part insurance cover provided by CCP or Sentinel.. versions are offered by most credit card providers.

Thanks Sunil,
I didn't respond earlier because I was busy reading the small print, I figured out that it relates to third party cards so chose not to go with it. Thanks for the response though.
