How do I identify credit card company?

Hi,

When I was young & stupid, I got myself into debt, which has been long repaid.

Yesterday, I found an old Capquest letter advising my account was clear, but have only go the credit card number, not the provider. Don't really want to call Capquest unless I have to, so is there an way of finding the provider just using the account number?

  • Use an online BIN checker - something like this. https://www.exactbins.com/bin-lookup

Even if you could, if this is for a potential PPI complaint you should realise that any amounts written off as part of Debt Management would simply be set off against any redress you might win.

Debts paid off years ago, so it would be all mine if I had paid it.

Do note any money written off (including interest etc) can still be used as offset, only if you paid everything in full would there be no option for offset

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Paid off completely with no write off of interest and/or charges?

That seems very unlikely given your reference to a Debt Collection Agency.

As I said at the outset, expect any PPI redress (should you be successful) to be the subject of an offset.

So expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.
