Faulty Used Car £32000
Options
Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help me. My husband purchased a fairly new car - 1 year old from a well known dealership. Within a week of purchase he noticed a shudder from the steering wheel.
Brakes, Discs and Steering Wheel were faulty when the dealership was inspecting it. Was sent away to manufacturer who replaced brakes, discs, suspension arm and steering wheel thingy. Spoke to salesperson and requested to hand car back, was told give the repairs a chance.
Got it back weeks and weeks later. Then 5 days later, same faults developed??????
Its back for the second round of repairs and its been in for 8 weeks!
We want to reject the vehicle and get the full amount back. Can we? I was hoping we could do a Section 75 but the maximum for that is £30000. Is there anything else I can do.
I've written a letter to the Complaints department of the dealership but I know they won't give into my request.

Oh and the salesperson thought it was funny to tell me after I purchased the vehicle that it was a good thing we had bought it as the Manager got 3 penalty points for speeding in it!!0

I doubt the steering wheel was faulty. Was it round in shape and turned left and right? Not faulty. If the juddering only occurred when braking then brake discs would be the immediate suspect however there is a possibility of an ABS fault.
You can reject the car and you don't have to use Section 75, in fact Section 75 is only used when the retailer doesn't play ball and you're not at that point yet. Also you can only use Section 75 if you got it on finance, not if you paid in cash or by bank transfer or debit card so it would need to be loan or credit card. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Reject it formally, drop it back off at the dealer or stop driving it.
Be prepared for a wait but you should get your money back. Keep it insured until they take possession of it formally.0 -

How could the manager get the points without notification being sent to the registered keeper (eg the OP) unless of course it was before they had purchased the car.0 -

That's kind of my point. Someone maybe went 25mph in a 20mph zone prior to the OP buying the car. So freaking what??!!
I think the OP should buy brand new in future.0 -

If not have you visited the local franchised dealer to get a second opinion on whether it's covered under the Manufacturers warranty ?0
