EON PAYG Smart Meters

Hi,

This time last week EON installed some PAYG smart meters for both Gas & Electric. Now I was hoping this would mean the end of having to trek down to the post office on a rainy morning to get some credit.

I installed the App on my phone and was slightly disappointed to see the App couldn't pick up what my balance was on each meter. I then noted I couldn't top up on the app either.

So I then tried the EON website and again I couldn't top up that way either.

Not very Smart so far.

Anyway I've rung the EON smart PAYG meter department who sadly weren't very helpful. Telling me that sometimes the system can be busy and to try later. But they could take payment and top up my meter that way.

I've tried multiple times using both the app and the website to see if can get my balance or top up but I've not been successful once.

I've also dropped EON an email telling them of the issues and all I've got back from them is a message saying there are problems with the App and the Website for topping up Smart Meters and you can either ring or get a voucher from the post office.

As far as I'm aware EON have been using PAYG smart meters for a while now, so I find it hard to believe they simply don't work and I'm being fobbed off or the person handling my query doesn't know how to resolve it.

So my question is, does anyone else have these smart meters and can you use the app / website to topup? Or did anyone else have this issue and did you successfully get it resolved.

At the moment it kind of feels like I've wasted my time getting these things installed and its also been a bit annoying.

  • Well I tried this at lunch and the App is finally bringing back a balance but doesn't seem to want to take payments.

But online I can see my balance and make payments.

Hopefully I might be getting somewhere

Hello JasonHand and I'm sorry you've been struggling to top up your new smart meters.

We're aware of these problems and are working to fix them. The root cause is with the software and not the meters themselves.

As well as online top ups and the other methods you mention, we've a 24 hour automated Freephone service too.

Sorry again for the inconvenience JasonHand and thank you for your patience.
