Insurance renewal - Accident but no claim

Hi,
I need some guidance regarding the renewal of the car insurance.
Some months ago, a lorry scratched the side of my car on the M6, (nothing major happened, 15-20mph max). The driver's insurance took all the blame and paid for everything.
I informed Admiral about this incident and told them that I am not making a claim, only notifying what happened.
I was doing some quote searches and there is a section that asks if I had any accidents or claims even if not at fault:
If I say "yes", they ask for the date of the claim, which I didn't make. And the price of the insurance increases to around £2000 (still a decrease from the £2600 I paid the first year).
If I say no, the price almost halves... So, my question is: can I say I did not have any accidents or claims? Will Admiral inform the other insurance companies if I make the switch?
Any ideas? I am really confused.
Thanks!

On a comparison site, every time you tweak the figures, it's noted on ecru insurers servers.
They will certainly notice that you've obtained a quote with a non fault claim, then purchase a policy without it.
Best case, you'll be charged the difference to correct the policy.
Most likely, they'll cancel the policy, which you'll have to declare to all future insurers.
Worst case, it'll be cancelled and you'll be reported got insurance fraud. Police involvement and a fraud marker on your credit file.0 -
Thank for the reply. What should I write about when did I make this claim? As I said I did not make any claim and the other insurance paid everything.0

I'm confused.. I only informed admiral about the incident but didn't make any claim with them. The other driver's insurance took care of the repairs. Am I missing something? Or even if I only inform about an incident it counts as a claim?0

But you made a claim, just not on your insurance, but somebody else’s (presumably)0

You claimed from the 3rd party's insurance.
And the question asked will have been something like accidents/incidents where no claim was made.
So that covers the scratch even if you had not claimed from the 3rd party.
Wait until you see the prices after declaring having a policy cancelled.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Yes. You claimed against the third party insurer! You had a claim!
You are "missing" that the question asked when applying for insurance quotes is along the lines of "have you had any claims or losses in the last X years"
It's irrelevant where you made the claim!0 -

Most insurers will ask about accidents, claims or losses
As there was an accident with a 3rd party, the accident needs to be declared, otherwise, you will not be providing the full information to the insurer and you will be in danger have having your insurance cancelled (which will cause you many problems for the future).
If you have had an accident - fault or non fault - and if the insurer is asking you to declare accidents, then they will need to be declared

You will also have to declare this for the next few years too , i had 2 non fault incidents both times the other party's insurance paid out, however i was told i need to declare both for i believe 5 yrs .
Its made no difference to my insurance but had to be removed as a named driver on hubby's because his renewal was astronomical with me on it .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
