Bought a used car from a dealer with a major fault. Where do I stand?

Its common practice for many NI peeps to purchase 2nd hand cars in England. There is so much choice and better prices here.
Going back to the OP, IFAIK consumer rights aren't devolved powers so your legal rights are the same no matter where you are in the UK. It is more difficult to exercise your rights if you are not physically close to the action. I would suggest the following.
Park the car up (keeping it taxed & insured)
Get some legal advice (there are loads of solicitors in Belfast) a couple of £100 could be money well spent.
There should be numerous on line template letters re "Rejecting faulty goods" that you could use.
Don't forget to check your home insurance legal cover may be in there.0 -
What difference does it make how far away the car is?
Because under normal circumstances, it's your responsibility to get it back there if it needs repairs.
If the dealership is Lookers, they own Charles Hurst in NI. Similarly, Agnews (Mini) is part of Syntner. Either of these could be helpful for getting the car repaired in NI.0 -
Can you reject a car due to fault that was identified before the sale? The car was purchased as faulty but with an agreement to fix it which so far hasn't been pursued.0
