How much notice do I have to give for a periodic tenancy?

After our fixed term tenancy is up we have entered into a periodic tenancy ( agreed between us and our landlord).
We have potentially found somewhere else to rent but are not sure if the timings are going to work out. I've done a bit of research into periodic tenancy but I am getting confused about how much notice we have to give our landlord.

In our original tenancy agreement we had to give two months notice and we pay our rent monthly.

When I was looking at periodic tenancies the information seemed to say that the terms of the initial contract applies and also that the notice is the rent period either week to week or month to month.

My question is if we have to give 2 months notice or one month notice?

Thank you.

  • If your AGREEment says 2 months then that's what you have AGREED to give

  • Thank you for your reply.

The only thing that was causing the confusion was when I read
"The length of the periodic tenancy depends on the rent payment schedule, becoming either a monthly or a weekly periodic tenancy. If the tenant wants to leave, he must give written notice of either four weeks or one month."

this has been covered countless times

EITHER your written tenancy agreement states in writing what happens after the end of your WRITTEN FIXED TERM tenancy period. Written contracts set out what you are bound by in legal terms...

    OR it does not...

if it does you have a contractual periodic agreement covered by the contract terms
if it does not, you have a statutory periodic tenancy covered by statute law

so which do you have ?????????????
