Assistance required bank refusing to comply

We recently followed directions with regard to starting our case against our bank - Nat West - and walked into our local branch with a letter covering all three accounts held by us. We had £30 to cover the charges for administration of retrieval of data on all three accounts but when we tried to hand over the letter the clerk stated
'we do not accept cash for this kind of request.'
She then stated I do not think we can handle this kind of query, vanished to see her manager, returning to hand us a standard complaints procedure form.
As both of us are have just basic accounts at another bank and no longer have cheque facilities should we now contact the bank's complaints procedure with a counter cheque from our new bank?
In the meantime, can you clarify that what they have said is above board or merely a stalling technique?

They should accept other methods of payment, counter cheque and postal order included.
You should also be able to pay £10 for all the information held on your accounts at that bank, rather than £10 for each.
Check Martin's Reclaim guide (link in my signature). It describes the procedure for the Subject Access Request.0 -
So what happens when the bank refuses to actually take the letter and payment off you?0

Send the letter with a postal order by recorded delivery to the head office and track it online. This way youve got proof the received it.0 -
The bank can take the letter and forward it onto the team that deal with Subject Access Requests. Alternatively hand the letter with statutory £10 for a Subject access request and it will be sent on. Unfortunately we would not accept cash.0
