Have you tried reporting it to Action Fraud? If they will accept the case they will issue you with a crime number.

Why would they accept the case. This has nothing to with fraud or scams. It's (allegedly) theft, plain and simple.

Thank you for that tip. Unfortunately, Amazon's e-mail specifically says that they do not accept Action Fraud
"If the issue isn't resolved after contacting local police, please contact us again and include a copy of the police report, crime reference number and details of the station where the incident was reported. Please note: to assist in obtaining a police report, we recommend that you provide a copy of this email to the police to help explain what has happened. We will then validate the report with the local police force in question; for that reason, we are unable to accept reports filed with Action Fraud, as this is a reporting centre, rather than a local police force."

I did exactly as they said: Went to the police, showed the e-mail and got nothing but a note stating they cannot issue a crime number. Amazon did not accept that:
"I'm really sorry to hear about the problem you've had with your order. I understand that you were advised to submit a police report.

I've checked the report you've sent. Unfortunately, I'm unable to validate the report. Please get back to us with a valid police report so that we can proceed further."
  • I'd just go back to the police and advise that Amazon say item has been delivered, therefore it's become your property. It has now been stolen from you. The police don't like giving out crime ref numbers as it opens a case and probably goes against them if unsettled. Don't show them the email.
