Old CCJ and house sale - what can I do?

Hi,
We’re in the process of moving house and our buyers solicitor has uncovered an issue involving a CCJ against our current home.
This was applied in 2005 from an Egg credit card of my partners which had fallen in to appears, it was paid off shortly after and as far as we knew the CCJ was lifted. This clearly was never done, which we only found out last week.
Our solicitor has been in touch with the original solicitor for egg who are being less than helpful and have not yet responded. Our solicitor advised us to get in touch with egg to see if we could chase it along. Egg has since been sold to barclaycard and we have tried to discuss with them. They are slow beyond belief, it took a week to get a letter - they apparently ‘don’t have the facility ‘ to send emails and i’m beyond angry at having waited so for a letter to come that it says no more than the account is closed and no money is owed - which our solicitor is saying is not enough.
No our move looks to be in serious jeopardy, as our buyer is getting twitchy - everything else is easy to go, our solicitor is not being especially helpful preferring to leave it for us to resolve - it’s so frustrating
I’m looking for advice as to what to do next, who should I chase, is there anything I can do - what should I be asking for? Should I be chasing Egg or their solicitors? Any help you can offer would be most welcome.

Who exactly has the problem with the CCJ being there? The mortgage company, presumably?0
-
It’s our buyers solicitor because it’s somehow been recorded against the property.
So yes - presumably it’s coming from the mortgage company0 -
CCJ’s for credit cards aren’t spplied against properties but against people.0
-
That’s what we thought - but it’s come up against the property search somehow and our buyers solicitor has advised them to not proceed until it’s been cleared.0
-
I wonder if they’ve run a credit check against yourselves and found it.
Sure the CCJ is served TO the address, but it goes against a person not a property.
Have you checked your credit files to see if it’s listed?0 -
What business is it of the buyers to know about your credit history? This makes no sense and sounds like an excuse to pull out. Also, whoever told the buyer breached dpa by sharing information about you to a third party, time to lawyer up.0

Oh, tell me about it worried Jim - I’ve already challenged my estate agent who appears to be freely discussing it with all and sundry. Is it worth contacting their solicitor for the full details - mines off for a long weekend and has been pretty useless to date in terms of helping. If we weren’t so far in, I’d be changing solicitor to be honest.
It’s from 2005 and has been cleared since 2005, so it doesn’t appear on any credit files we’ve seen. My partner also ran off a courts report and it’s not showing.
It’s so annoying, and I’m so cross that all anyone seems to do is tell us to chase the lender, who couldn’t give a xxxx because the debt is paid and it never their debt anyway!0 -
So I’ve spoken to Drydens - who acted on behalf of egg, they could not give less of a t**s and said they don’t have files going back that far and anyways, since egg has been sold to barclaycard and barclaycard is not a customer of theirs they won’t deal with this.0

I can only think that the buyers solicitor only concern is that future owners might be harassed by debt collecting calls & visits from smug gits in transits.
Frankly if I was desperate to but the house I would not care about such a minor issue but if I had other choices then I would either want it sorted or walk away.
Realistically this is not going to be sorted anytime soon - what exactly doe the OP's solicitor want? - getting the "no money owed" letter within a week was actually quite impressive!0 -
If it’s not on either of your credit files then how have they found this information out?0
