Issues with bills

Before Christmas, there was a gas leak within the property and because of this, the gas bill is so high. I rang my provider when after I submitted meter readings on the 2nd of Feb to inform them that this was not right as it is more than quadruple what we paid this time last year. My provider told me to ring SGN as it was their fault but after speaking to SGN, they said it is my providers responsibility. Ringing my provider back and informing them of this, they then told me to ring Transco as it was their fault. I rang Transco who said the same as SGN and that my provider should take responsibility. I then informed my provider of this who said they would ring Transco. After a week, my provider rang me and said that they will not help with the bill or do anything and that the tenants have to pay it.
Does anyone have any advice as my provider can see what we paid the same time last year and realise that this bill is more than what we have paid in the last year.

Your route is a complaint to your provider in line with their complaints procedure
then if unhappy with the reply you can escalate to the energy ombudsman0 -
If the leak was on your side of the meter which is seems to have been if it increased your consumption then it's your responsibilty, not the suppliers or even Transco.
If the leak was on the suppliers side of the meter then it wouldn't have registered on the meter and it would have been down to the supplier to sort out
If you are in rented accomodation then you should contact your landlord if you own the place then try your insurance companyNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Who fixed the leak ? I am surprised that if the leak was that noticeable on the meter you still have a property ! As others have said, if it is a leak on the customer side of the meter and not from the actual connection to the meter then any bill is down to the consumer and possibly to argue with the landlord.0
