Evening and weekend work only - lack of morning availability a barrier ?

Hello there.
I currently work 25 hours a week term time only.
I have done this to be able to accommodate my children as a single parent.
However now the youngest is nearly 15 I am looking to work 2 evenings a week and 2 shifts at the weekend with the option of covering annual leave and sickness during school holidays.
Everything I apply for seems to want 24/7 availability !
Does anyone know of any companies that employ the way I need ?
If I quit my job and work 37.5 hours a week all year at minimum wage (which is realistically what I am looking at) I would be less than a thousand pounds a year better off before tax !
My goal is to get myself completely off of housing benefit and working tax credit before I have to switch to the dreaded UC.

Have you been in contact with any agencies in your local area. They are probably best placed to know if what you are looking for is achievable.0

No I haven't done that yet I had no idea how difficult getting a retail job would be !
I will look into it though thanks for the suggestion.0 -
I used to work at the bingo...my evening shifts were 5:30 to 9:30.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Never thought of that but never seen a job come up either. I will look into it, thanks.0

Youll almost certainly find work in domiciliary care.
Depending on the shifts you pick up you might struggle getting exactly 37.5 hours because evening tends to be say 5-10pm. Add in 16 hours at the weekend and your only at 26 for the week. That said if youre willing to do long days on the weekend they should be able to offer you work.
Contracts are typically zero hours which isnt always a bad thing.
Its rewarding work but it takes a special kind of person to do it, i certainly couldnt. But you should never be short of hours if you want them.0 -

I am only looking to get 12-16 hours a week to top up my current job.
I don't want to leave it.
I did look at care but they need me to do training which would mean time off from my current job which would not be allowed.
And like you say it does take a special kind of person and I'm not sure that's me .0 -
Could you try to arrange it so you could do the trianing during school holidays or half term?
I think you may find that some larger retailers willadvertise wanting people with open availabilitlity but may be more felexible in relaity. Do you have any large supermarkets who might be loking for pickers for online orders, or staff to restock shelves etc, as those are things here evening / later availability might be an advantage. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
If you are looking to top up your earnings, how about offering your services as a cleaner on a self-employed basis? Make it clear that the householder supplies all the equipment/cleaning supplies and then all you have to do is get there and clean. Try a postcard in one of your local supermarkets, newsagents, Homebase etc - many allow you to do so free of charge - indicating your potential availability in terms of days/hours.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0

I don't think caring or cleaning is for me if I'm honest i need to be realistic in what I want to do.0

I've just taken on an evening / weekend job, got it through an agency.
The jobs are out there, even retail.
If you have a clean credit history then you could do call centre bank work.
Good luck and keep searching!Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0
