TSB closed my account.

I hadn't used in since April last year. I had a direct debit declined a couple of times as I had insufficient funds in. I went in today deposit some money as wanted to use account for savings and I was told they've closed my account, no letter or reason give. I'm not too bothered though.

Doo you think the reason they closed it was because no money going in plus direct debits with insufficient funds and not been used in ages?

Yep, sounds like those would be the reasons!

I am sure banks terms and conditions states they need to provide 60 days notice to customer before closing the account. They can close the account without notice in case of fraud.
  • I'm fairly certain they should give you notice of the closure, if not an in-depth reason. Is it possible you missed a letter from the bank?

Don't TSB have a rule that you must login to online banking at least once every 2 months in order to maintain the account?

That's fairly optimistic coming from them :)
  • If the account was overdrawn (possibly due to charges re the returned d/d's) then they have the right to close off the account to their collections or write the debt off.
OP what does your credit files say about this account?
They do not have to give 60 days notice of closure if they have reasonable grounds to believe the account holder has done a runner.

Did you speak to them at the time. Or simply ignored the issue.
