For future reference, Facebook is for cash on collection, or payment by PayPal for named goods when having something delivered.

I'd go further and say Facebook is not a place to do business, full stop.

    Why not?

Some of the selling groups are fantastic, as long as you do things properly it's no different than Gumtree/Shpock/Ebay et al

    Completely disagree with this.

My local FB groups are superb, BUT I pay cash on collection or for clothes then PayPal for named goods if they are posted.

I've had a few non collectors and time wasters for stuff I have sold but I just block them and move on.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

We're all entitled to our own opinions, personally, I feel there are so many crooks and charlatans on that site I wouldn't trust anything I read on it. let alone risk money trading via it. YMMV of course.

That's the way to play it, I don't trust anyone and think everyone is out to scam you so I do all my due diligence first before buying anything. You have to filter out the crooks and charlatans and there are some bargains to be had sometimes

It's when people trust others the opposite end of the country, buying things that are too good to be true, paying by bank transfer etc that the problems occur.

Facebook marketplace has a time and a place for buying, and buying unseen and sending by bank transfer is not one of those places.
  • Just an update - the supposed seller is claiming to have been hacked.

It has been reported to the banks involved and Action Fraud.

Thanks to people on here for the advice. Sometimes you have to learn the lesson the hard way!

Yeah sorry wrong terminology - it's a BACS payment.

So, complain to bank, flag with Action Fraud - are the police not worth alerting to it?

    Thanks.
Why complain to the bank? It's not their fault you sent a payment by a method that is warned against, in these situations.
