Hi all, after some advice on timings of when to apply for a mortgage.
We recently inquired about a new build and spoke to their financial adviser who said we should seriously lower our debts and when she put our details into principality and Halifax they both got rejected, she thinks this was due to credit card debts of £12,000. We have since cleared these using savings and the majority of them have updated on our credit reports (there were 6 cards in total) but 2 still show as the full balance (about £3000 total) - I can only assume this is because they report at different stages in the billing cycle, and will be updated over the next month.
So my question is when is a good time to apply for a mortgage now that the balances are at £0.
My husbands credit report is decent – it shows 35 months since the ‘last payment problem’ and that was something minor.
I however have 2 x CCJ’s (small amounts under £1000, both satisfied a couple of years ago) that are due to drop off in September – however don’t seem to show up on Equifax for some reason. My last ‘payment problem’ also shows up as 35 months ago (I think this was a British gas issue linked to my husband)
We don’t know if we can wait until September to apply for a mortgage because of our circumstances, and may need to apply in April – what are our chances now that the debt has gone?
