It's got a really cheap copy of microsoft works so I'm wondering if it's dodgy.
Also does anyone use works word processor instead of word? Can you do thinks like make tables and insert pictures etc? I'm not bothered about mail merging and collaborative working and stuff like that. It's for university work and not running a business empire! Thanks.

I've used both Works & Word, & I prefer Word. Works is fine for simple stuff, but a lot of my Word ducuments have several tables of different sizes, & I've found that both Works & Open Office change the layout so much, including moving justification settings etc that they've created a lot of extra work I could do without.

If you're just doing simple straightforward letters, then Works or Open Office are fine - you can insert pictures etc in both of those. But if you're using detailed/complicated layouts or formatting, I think you'd be better off using Word to keep the consistency & lessen the risk of the documents being corrupted for yourself & anyone else you'd be sending the documents to. Using either & having to convert to the other could cause problems.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
