Book/e-book scam?

Hi, I just bought what I thought was a book from roadbooks.co.uk but instead received a digital download. It doesn't describe any of its books as being physical or digital downloads anywhere. It's only £8.50 so I'm not too worried but are they ok to do this or is it a scam?
Naturally they refuse refunds for digital products!

I think "Roadbooks selling only digital content which is delivered to clients email. No shipping to clients physical address" might be a suitable clue in their terms and conditions.
  • Fair enough, so always read terms and conditions, lesson learned! It's still shifty though.
    Thanks for your help.

Sorry but there should be a 'digital download only' message somewhere on there without having to delve into the T&C's.

In fact the T&C's themselves are odd to say the least.
    Taxes
Our store do not charge any tax

    There's 20% VAT on ebooks.
    Delivery Policy
All orders is delivered instant after purchase to client email.

They make the site look very amateurish and would stop me from using my payment details on there.

@ignomike - I'd keep a close watch on whatever payment method you used just in case.

Yes, I'd have stayed clear anyway. No specific real-life address (good luck finding them somewhere in Merritt Road), a mobile as a contact number, no clue as to what sort of legal entity they are, etc.

Indeed. Plus, you've paid to receive something from a suspicious source you then download to your device. Nothing risky about that at all....
  • And no doubt ripped / scans of the original book, or an original e-book with the DRM stripped out. I'm sure the original publishers will be very keen to trace down the owners of the site...

It's not usually my style but for the first time I've emailed Penguin and advised them to take a look.

I wouldn't have bought from there either - too amateurish and a random selection of books. But I agree with the OP that it's not clear that it's a download. Indeed the box-sets make it look like that's what you'll get.
