Car insurance purchase software adds hidden costs

I thought I was going mad. I had some very reasonable quotes from Lloyds O2 and bright side via the comparison sites. First of all I went on the Lloyds site and end of entering card details etc. the software asked me to put in the date of purchase of the car and source of no claims discount and after I had added everything else at the last minute it added on an extra £120 to the “quote. I couldn’t work out what happened. After a few Goes again I realised what was happening. I thought it seemed like sharp practice so I left it and went onto the O2 website - this was through confused.com and exactly the same happened again. The software looked exactly the same and it added on £10 per month to my premium so I rang them and said I didn’t feel it was very acceptable that I’d been offered a quote that significantly changed at the last minute. So then after that I had another quote and I went through to the Brightside site. This time the quote said that breakdown cover had been added however when it got to the point of purchase the breakdown cover had to be re-added and the purchase price went up again.I have spent two hours on this and I feel it is a ploy by the insurance companies to grind you down so you end up paying the price they want you to pay not the price they advertised - has anyone else experienced this and what can we do about it?

always clear history on your PC,they know your looking around.
So they will quote higher.
