Accomodation cancelled by booking site after check in, can i claim on travel insurance?

We checked into our accomodation but there were severe issues with our accomodation. For safety reasons we couldn't stay there so left and called the booking site. They said they'd look into it and call us back, with no indication of how long this would take. By this time the kids were tired n crying so I went online and booked us somewhere near on another site and as low a price as I could get being so lastminute. We checked in there and all was fine. The original booking site then emailed me to say they'd cancelled my original booking and would refund the money (which they have done). However I am out of pocket because the second hotel we then booked was £200 more. Would I be able to claim this on my travel insurance?

    No love.

Should have found somewhere else if needed.

I mean, if that’s the car why not book yourself somewhere even nicer....

I mean, it’s not your money if you get it back....amirite!

Have you tried a section 75 claim with your CC provider?

I agree that it would be unlikely if your insurer coughed up; but look on the bright side. You have obviously chosen to book flights and accommodation separately as a DIY job, as we always do, because it is often cheaper than an ATOL or ABTA protected package with a travel operator who would be more likely to look after you.

So ypu've probably saved/will save more than £200 in recent years/ years ahead!
