  • Thank you Nasqueron,i have thought about calling them but so anxious about it and abit ashamed i suppose. I probably should force myself to do it though. Willingtolearn thats what i thought that i would just have to pay it but at least then there would be no more charges, though Zx81 if i'm not using the facility after withdrawing it then what interest can they charge me or do you mean if they referred me to a debt collection agency? Thanks.

Banks are required to deal carefully with financial hardship, they won't make it seem like you're a naughty girl who is spending all her cash on shoes, they have to be compassionate and look at your case to help you out, not punish you. Nothing to be ashamed of, many people fall on hard times.

The details you need are here:

If you are in an authorised overdraft but cancel it, then you are required to repay the money immediately or you will be seen as in an unauthorised overdraft which is more expensive and more of a problem. Don't cancel it

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hi Nasqueron,i understand now that cancelling would make things worse. I think i was put off calling them by their help section on financial difficulties. It didn't seem to offer much only 30 days breathing space on interest which isn't that helpful,i would need at least afew months with no charges to get the debts to decrease abit. They also mention that if you call them for help you need to have income/outgoing budget ready to discuss with them etc. I think its a waste of time as not only do i find it uncomfortable going into every detail on the phone soley because i used the money to survive and have no luxuries of clothing etc (apart from the odd bottle of wine to drown my sorrows, lol) but they would wonder why my money is being paid into a different basic bank account, just wish i could find a cheaper loan or some overall solution to prevent it getting out of hand. Thank you for your advise. :)

The alternative is to go to the Debt Free page on here and post a statement of affairs which people can help you look at. At the very least that will give you a budget ready for talking to the bank and help you establish where you can cut money. The bank will hopefully not just work on 30 days either.

Borrowing to get out of debt is never a good idea

  • Ok thank you,I will have a look at that. I don't really want to borrow anymore to cover it. I suppose i may call them at some point.
