I do have a credit history as the landlady I am renting from uses her son's company (a property management firm) to handle the rent collection/maintenance etc. They carried out a credit score on me and it came back as 900-odd. When I say I have "no debts" I still pay for things like my mobile phone contract by direct debit, water, electricity, gas, car insurance, broadband, council tax etc etc monthly, so surely this is a form of "credit". I just always pay them on time.

If it's not on the report it doesn't count. Like council tax, car insurance, utilities ...

    Look at your credit report.

I really could do with one of the 0% on purchases credit cards.

I have recently bought a house and need a short term loan to do a few things.

I thought I had a good credit history. Never missed payments etc. I have checked experian. I earn a fair amount. I have 2 credit cards already.

I applied for the Tesco one, got rejected. Then tried the Virgin one and rejected again... are these hard to get?!

Can anybody tell me if paying a mortgage deposit (or part thereof) would be able to be done as a purchase on a 0% credit card for 12 months purchases eg Virgin or Tesco. I am trying to get circa 10k and wish to avoid loan fees. My partner will get the card so it would not effect my credit rating, and have rental income to repay within 12 months.

Not directly. What you can do is BT funds to your current account using one of these cards http://www.stoozing.com/sbt.php

You know that any significant balance on the credit card showing on your credit report will count against you from an affordability point of view on the mortgage?

  • Does anyone know the best credit card for using abroad (just for purchases - preferably at 0% interest for the first 10 months to 1 year). My son is soon to be working abroad and needs to have one - he doesnt know where he will be yet, but probably somewhere in Europe. He has no debts, never been refused credit and only wants to use it until he is settled and able to decide whether to get one abroad. Any suggestions?
  • Hi,

I'm thinking of using a 12 month interest free credit card to make a single purchase of £1400 with monthyl payments to my card that will pay this within a year.

I notice that both the Tesco and Barclaycards recomended have clauses like the one below (from Barclaycard). Does this mean that only the 1st 56 days of any payment for a single item will be interest free?

Clause: "Up to 56 days interest free from the date of the transaction on new purchases if you pay your statement balance in full and on time each month."

Are there any cards without this style of clause if so?

12 months is no interest for 12 months. The 56 days comes into play once the 12 months are up.

So you spend £1400 you have 12 months to pay it back interest free.

You must however pay the minimum repayment at least every month.

So for instance you can't just pay nothing for 11 months, then pay £1400 in the 12th month or pay nothing for 6 months, then pay £700, then nothing until the last month and then pay the other £700.

With the upto 56 days interest after the 12 months. You have a zero balance and your statement is issued on the 1st January and you buy something on the 2nd January. The purchase won't appear until the 1st February statement is issued and you then have till your payment date in February (around the 25th) to pay it off. So interest free between 2nd January and 25th February.

i want to apply for a sainsbury's credit card but recently two work colleagues, with good credit rating, have been declined. i just wondered if there credit checks are more stringent than others? also when my friends were applying they made a big deal of no longer offering protection insurance which they have never purchased for any card.

    Hi

I am interested in getting the Tesco credit card. I am aware that it is 0% for 13 months and I plan on paying it off in full monthly anyway as I simply want the clubcard rewards.

When the 13 months is over and I pay the card off in full every month do I pay any interest?

    Thanks
