  • Hi,

I'm looking for a 0% credit card for purchases, but I only actually need the 0% for 9 months so I was wondering what the best card would be to satisfy the 9 months (or more) but perhaps also offer me some rewards.

    Can anyone recommend anything, please?

    Many thanks,

    Jon

I would suggest you sign up for Noddle's or Clearscore's free credit reports and they will recommend cards in various categories according to your priorities. Otherwise, you might want to try a comparison website.

Only you know your order of priorities.for your card.

Am i right in thinking that i can buy the items and if i pay, say, £25 per month and make sure the balance is clear by the end of the 12 months - i wont have to pay any interest?
If you're talking about a 0%-on-purchases card for 12 months then you are thinking correctly. Make sure you make all your payments on time and don't exceed your credit limit.

  • I have just applied for the Post Office credit card but the summary page shows that I only got 16 months at 0%.

I thought that I would get 27 months! Grrr

If posts on this forum are to be believed it could take you the 16 months to prove your identity with certified copies of everything except, perhaps, your blood group.

    Good luck.

    Even more confusion!

I spoke to the Post Office credit card team today and they said that if I use my card within the first 3 months, then I will get 27 months interest free on my purchases.

However, any purchases made from the 4th month would only get 16 months interest free credit.

So - it seems there are many people that will get stung by this deal thinking they have no interest to pay for over two years - they will according to the Post Office have to pay for any items purchased from month 4 within 12 months.

Perhaps one of the MoneySavingExpert team need to look at this before people lose money. :money:

I am seeing more and more posts on this forum regarding problems with Post Office financial offerings. From expensive and long-winded ID requirements (e.g. certified ID documents) to this kind of trickery specifically designed to catch people out.

My advise would be to AVOID ALL POST OFFICE FINANCIAL PRODUCTS. My financial spreadsheets have a folder for Post Office named "Post Office - AVOID" just in case I forget.

The Partnership Mastercard might be worthy of consideration. 0% interest on purchases for the first 6 months, 16.9% APR. Like the Tesco credit card it awards points but in this case related to Waitrose and John Lewis awarding 1 point per £1 spent in those stores and 1 point per £2 spent elsewhere. Easy to get for most people: UK resident, age over 18, household income over £4000. Issued by HSBC.

Handy for anyone who hates Tesco but still wants points to spend.
  • Hi all, I'm looking for a new credit card and wondering what would suit me best?
I have a Lloyds Platinum Credit card for 15 plus years, which until recently I was more than happy with, I would buy something on it maybe for £50-60 pounds and I'd quiet often pay it off before any fee's incurred within the interest free period of 50 days plus. Occasionally I'd use it for a bigger spend of maybe £300 and pay it off with 5-6 months always making more than the minimum payment each month.
But now Lloyds have changed the terms and you pay from day 1 when you borrow more than £7 then don't charge much but it's not as flexible for me. I have my spending money each month and can decide if it's worth it to me to be short for a few months etc.

So what would you recommend for me and my spending habits?
