Perscription charge on NHS

I hope this is the right place to have a vent about this so here goes.
My Doctor refered me to a physiotherapist because I've had a frozen shoulder since October last year, I am the only carer for my Husband and helping him get out of bed/showered/dressed and all the other things I do for him is getting impossible now due to the pain (he wont have anyone else helping him).
Anywho, I was told I needed a Steroid injection and given a prescription for it, I have to go back in March with the medicine and they will inject me.
I have been told by the physio and the Chemist confirmed it that I have to pay for the private perscription! That's ten pounds I don't have as I am 60 now and prescriptions are the only thing I do get free, Bus Pass and Pension have been denied me for another 6 years.
If a NHS Doctor says I need treatment then surely I should get all the treatment necessary via the NHS and not have to pay any part of it.
I am not on any medication and have never been in hospital (apart from having the 2 Children) and am beyond livid about this.
Sorry for the long rant x :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

A NHS doctor saying you need something does not entitle you to NHS treatment, or he would have prescribed you the steroids.0

Ten pounds to potentially get rid of a serious pain in the shoulder that has hampered you for over 4 months is an absolute bargain, no?0

Your physiotherapist must have given you a private prescription.
You could ask your GP if he will give you the injection or give you a NHS prescription for it.0 -
“A private prescription is like any other prescription for medication written by a doctor, except that private prescriptions are not funded by the NHS.
Private prescriptions are written by doctors in private practice, and by NHS doctors for medication which the NHS will not fund. The NHS does not fund travel medication, such as malaria tablets, and restricts quantities of some other medicines. The NHS will fund only a small supply of the most popular drugs used to treat male impotence.”0 -
All very true but a steroid injection is available on the NHS if your Gp/medical adviser consider it the appropriate treatment.
Hence why I suggest the OP discuss it with her GP.0 -

As has been said, the legitimate way is to ask if the OP's GP can prescribe the medication.
If it isn't available on the NHS the OP has to make a decision as to whether the pain reduction is worth £10.
If it were me, I suspect I'd be happy to pay the £10 to rid pain.0 -
I've had numerous steroid injections without having to pay. Go back to your GP.0
