First Utility problem

I'm a landlord and my tenant is having a problem with First Utility and I'm trying to work out how to help her.

She moved into my house. The previous tenant had signed up with First Utility. There'd been a void of just over three weeks since they moved out. I was obviously liable for the bills in that period. I had the meter readings from the date they moved out till the date she moved in but was lax and didn't let them know those.

She signed up with a new provider but there was a period of 11 days when First Utility were supplying the property. When the switch happened, she was ill in bed and didn't read the meters as she was told on the day of the switch.

I found out months later that they were trying to bill her from the date the old tenants moved out. Things had escalated by then and they were threatening her with court etc. I used Resolver and explained the position to them, gave them my sets of meter readings and paid what I owed for the three week void.

That didn't sort it. They are trying to claim about £180 off her for 11 days supply. The meter readings they're basing this on are - she says - from two months into the supply with the new supplier. But she has no proof of this.

I am not sure how to sort this out. I have advised her to use resolver but to my knowledge she hasn't.

Is there any protocol for what can be done when someone switches supplier and doesn't read meters?
