UPVC sash windows : advice on a good average price

Can anyone help me with advice on what's an acceptable price to be quoted for upvc sash windows plus fitting (London area prices)? I've taken 2 quotes for sash windows (x5). First came in at approx £750 per window inc. fitting, second £1250 per window inc. fitting (this quote was for basic finish. They quoted an even higher price for a textured faux wood finish). The second company did promote themselves as having the best products on the market, but I'm sure they're still pitching over the odds (correct me if I'm wrong). Neither are 'big' chains and the first is a small local company which was recommended by a friend though they have some bad reviews online.

If anyone can advise on what sort of varience there really is in these products to justify such a price difference, and what I should aim for re haggling, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks.

edit.

One other thing - in the case of a bay window, where the 2 side windows are half the width of the main centre window, is it customary for them all to be itemised as the same price per window? The first company gave just a total and no breakdown. The second itemised it but quoted all windows as the same price despite them being different sizes.

If there are the same amount of big as littles they balance out and its easier to price per window . I use about £350 per window plus materials to make good . (plastic /timber or simple plastering etc ) if it needs my plasterer its a job beyond my window and warned in advance about it possibly a problem and it my price plus the plasterer .

  • What do you have currently.

If you have proper sash windows consider repairing, cutting in draft seals and replacing them with better glass...

I would love sash windows :(
