Options
I am planning a holiday to the USA and would like to have a credit card on which I can make a 0% balance transfer to pay for the holiday but also buy tickets for attractions before I go in foreign currency without charges. Does anyone know of a card that offers both please?

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ board to the ‘Credit Cards’ board, where it is better suited.

    Regards

  • Virgin Money travel credit card
Nationwide credit card (if an existing Nationwide member)

will both give 12 months at 0% (there is a BT fee though)
  • I know you can get a 26 month 0% BT and 26 month 0% on purchases from Virgin as I got it BUT I don't know if it allows foreign currency exchange purchases at 0% too, in fact I don't think a card like that exists, maybe Halifax Clarity but does it offer 0% BT,s not sure

Others might know more than me.

Why? Have you already paid on another credit card which is not on 0% interest?

Have a look at the Post Office credit card product(s).
  • Thanks Nile. I am new to this and for some reason could not find a way to post on the credit card thread. I appreciate your help.
  • Thanks for your reply Yorkshireboy. I am planning on paying on my M & S credit card which I use for daily purchases and pay off each month and then transferring the balance onto a 0%. I didn’t necessarily want to apply for two different credit cards as I don’t know how it will affect my credit rating.
  • Thanks for all your advice, I took a look at all the suggestions and have successfully applied for a Nationwide Select Credit card which offers me %on balance transfers and no foreign transaction charges. Sorted!

Two searches would have been fine. If you applied in quick succession (within a few days), then the second lender wouldn't see that the first account had been opened, so this aspect wouldn't affect the second application.

Once both accounts have been opened, I don't think your situation would be any worse than having one but with a higher balance, but it is a dark art.

But anyway, seems like you found a good solution anyway! I assume you've got interest free on purchases too?

The only issue with having a 0% BT on the same card that you are spending on means that you will likely be paying interest from the moment of purchase when using abroad. That is assuming that you have a 0% BT live when you make the purchases.

Hence my remark about 0% on purchases. I did a google and it seems there is a Select which offers 0% on both.
