So I moved into this property two years ago. I wanted to go with co op energy so rang them to transfer. They said my current supplier is British gas business. Started receiving bills and that was that.... Just paid it every month for 2 years.
3 days ago I got a credit note of British gas so I rang them and I said I haven't been with you for two years... Can you the account listed here. She said the account is closed we don't owe you you don't owe us anything. I was like oh ok can you just make sure I don't receive anything else from you guys.
3 days later I receive another letter stating I owe them £130. I rang them again and said why are you sending out another bill. They said this is for the electric, I stated I wasn't with them. They checked a energy system and can see that my electric is with them.
Confused, I was like why am I all of a sudden receiving a bill for stated from November to Jan now? Apparently that's what I owe. So I said what was my previous bill before that.... They couldn't tell me. So I'm like so why have I only got a bill for these months but nothing from before.
Manager then came on the phone and said your electric bis definitely with us and that someone has transferred this account to my name in November. But the property is with them on the register. At this point I ring co op and ask them if my electric and gas is with them. They said only my gas is with co op but British gas objected to the transfer of electric. I wasn't told by either supplier it was objected and haven't had a bill for two years from British gas.
Rang British gas again and tell them that it was objected by them. They are denying it. They said that the property meter is classed as non residential and in some sort of trust (not sure how they can know that) and it wouldn't have been able to transfer anyway. Told them this house is a standard end terrace house and has never been 'splt' into complexes or anything. They have swapped the meter on the system to a 'residential' meter.
I have a feeling that the previous account holder / owner of the house has somehow managed to continue paying the bills (even though I opened an account with BG when I first moved in, had paid a few months bills).... And when BG rejected the transfer they started paying it again. Either way, i havnt been paying my electric for 2 years but also havnt received any bills until today. I presume that the transfer to me in November could have been done when the previous owner clocked on.
