DRP letter on behalf of UKPC

Hiya

I've had recurring problems with UKPC giving me parking charge notices over the last 3 years. It was quiet for a while but now I have received another one, for 'not parking correctly within the markings of the bay'. I'm renting and have an allocated parking space (that was blocked by someone else in this case), and UKPC is '(mis)managing' the residents parking at our apartment complex.

I've learned here how to succesfully appeal those parking charges and have done so several times now. Unfortunately, this time I couldn't do it on time (due to misdirected post at our complex), so I found a final notice by UKPC and a letter from DRP asking for £160 in my mailbox. Since then, I have contacted our property manager, who had the last charge cancelled for me, for help. Even the property manager seems now to be having a hard time getting any reply from them regarding this case. I tried calling UKPC myself today but after keeping me in the queue for more than 40min they just disconnected the call.

And as I haven't been to debt collector stage before, I made the big mistake of calling them, asking if the whole thing could be put on hold until I receive a reply from UKPC. The person on the phone did, surprisingly, not pressure me into paying immediateley. He noted the photograph clearly showed the car not being parked inside a bay and I replied that this was the case because another car blocked my space (I should have probably kept my mouth shut...).

So, here I am now, not being sure whether I should pay this charge (the deadline for this is 23:59 today), or whether I should risk not paying it in the hopes of UKPC cancelling it again :(...

What does your lease/AST say, or just as importantly, not say about parking, parking permits, paying third arty parking scammers, or third party parking scammers taking you to court?

Your lease/AST has primacy of contract over anything a third party scammer says.

Please also complain to your MP about this unregulated scam.

  • Thanks for all the quick replies :).

I checked my AST and it says nothing about parking at all. I was handed a UKPC permit by the letting agents on the day I moved in, and that’s it.

I’m just a bit concerned because I already called DPR, will they be able to use that against me? I’ll definitely not talk to them again...
