APCOA, train station, zero instead of letter o

Hi,
I have been sent a PCN by APCOA for a train station car park and allegedly not displaying a valid permit. The driver (or a passenger) paid the correct amount for parking so no loss of income to them etc. I am assuming that I need to appeal to them with scanned image of the ticket via their website. Please advise
TIA,

As far as car number plates go there is no difference between the typeface for Zero add the letter O, the same for l and I

Also as this is a railway car park under no circumstances try and guess the drivers identity

You, as the keeper, could instead say "Here's the ticket the driver bought. The driver paid".

If I were you, I would amend your opening post to remove who drove to show the DRIVER drove and he/she may have purchased the ticket or it could have been a passenger! Also why assume that the person who bought the ticket made a mistake. It could have been a machine malfunction! It is for the PPC to prove it was the purchaser's fault.

Because, at a railway station, where Byelaws apply, the registered keeper has extra protection (even more than in a bog-standard car park case) from the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (Schedule 4). The driver has no such protection. Potentially much more vulnerable.

as above, EDIT post #1 immediately and only state that the DRIVER may have done this, strictly speaking the machine should not accept an incorrect entry or the zero and O should produce the same character

AND as mentioned above, the appeal is from the KEEPER who states that the DRIVER has a valid ticket and here is a scanned copy of it (or a picture of it) and it is their validation processes that are at fault , especially as POPLA mentioned this in their last annual report (miskeying etc , its a trivial matter)

NO BLABBING ABOUT WHO WAS DRIVING, that is the main point in all of this, because a KEEPER is not liable for the actions of a driver where bylaws apply

so DONT TELL EM PIKE !!

The BPA in October 17 told their members to ignore basic keying mistakes. This is referred to in the 2018 POPLA annual report here https://popla.co.uk/docs/default-source/default-document-library/popla-annual-report-2018.pdf?sfvrsn=0
    page 6 & 7.

Refer APCOA to the BPA letter referred to in the annual report page 7.

Read the link, copy the relevant info and complain to the BPA.

As you can see there is no difference between 0 and O or I and 1

Dear APCOA As registered keeper of vehicle XXXXX youi recently sent a parking charge notice to me regarding an incorrect registration number input, No such error occurred as the font system used in the UK makes no distinction between the letter O and the number Zero, as well as I and 1.
As your systems have clearly failed, you Must cancel this parking charge with immediate effect.
for the avoidance of doubt, and to improve your in house training ( that appears to be lacking) i have included a picture of the UK number plate fonts.
I trust that i have your understanding and that you will be taking remedial action to improve your staff training.
I look forward to receiving a full unredacted apology from you, together with an undertaking that you will not make the same mistake again, as well as perhaps some flowers/chocolates as a means of recompense for your error

Please also complain to your MP about this unregulated scam. It's the only way this will ever get stopped.
