Searches I don't recognise on my Credit File

Two searches have appeared on my credit file (both at the end of Jan). Both I don't understand and I haven't applied for any credit.

One is "Madison Cf UK Ltd" and the other is "Capital One Bank"
Both are "quotation searches" in Jan.

Quotations searches, are just that, quotes, or "Soft Searches" Only you can see these and not potential lenders. Have you used any comparison websites of late?

"Madison Cf UK Ltd" is 118 118 money and "Capital One Bank" Is usually a credit card provider.

I haven't used any comparison sites or any such thing.

Soft or hard why are they doing them? A bit worrying companies can just look at your file without your input, request or knowledge.

I cannot answer to why they are doing them, but to my knowledge companies cannot search your credit history without your consent, i could be wrong and i am no expert on the matter. Seeing as they are soft searches I wouldn't worry about the impact on your credit file, but if you are worried about the unauthorised search then you can raise a dispute with the credit reference agency and they will contact the companies in question.

12 months on and I have the same issue 2 searches have appeared today for exactly the same as stated previously by Beany_bot
